Pure-ly delicious

We have almost reached the end of our bar-eakfasts.  Friday morning Chris and I took our respective Pure bars for our quick grab-and-go breakfast.  Mine was really good!  Again, like the Larabar, it was simple ingredients all mushed together to become a delicious, convenient meal.  I liked the texture of the Pure bar, it was similar to the Larabar, but maybe with a little more crunch.  Actually, a lot more crunch, because I think I got a piece of pecan shell . . . but I won't hate.  There was a good balance of tart and sweet in this bar.  I would buy it again!  Maybe I'll buy more today -- I think a trip to TJ's is in my future anyway!  But, we still have a Gnu bar to try!

Breakfasts of Champions!

This morning I tried the Cherry Pie Larabar.  The impressive thing about this bar is that there were only THREE ingredients in the bar!!  Tart dried cherries, dates, and pecans.  I really liked the texture of this bar, it was almost like a thick fruit leather bar, but with a little more crunch to it.  The flavor was a little harsh for my taste buds first thing in the morning.  It was SUPER tart!!  I would have liked a little more balance of sweet and tart.  Chris said his was really good.  He tried the Cashew Cookie Larabar and said that it tasted just like cashews!  Yum!  We would buy these again.
Yesterday I started out my morning taste-testing the Chocolate Fudge Think Thin bar.  My first impression upon visual inspection had my hopes high because it was covered in chocolate! Well, it must be good!  However, I was sorely disappointed after the first bite.  The texture was gritty and grainy, I needed some texture variety.  The taste was bland, either that or my allergy medicine hadn't kicked in yet enough to clear my sinuses.  ;)  But, no, I think that it was just plain tasteless.  I probably won't be getting these again.  Chris didn't like his Think Thin bar either.  Bummer!  Maybe we just didn't get the right flavors or maybe we are just too texture-sensitive?

Blueberry Bliss -- Say it three times, fast!

Well, this morning I tried my first bar of my wide assortment.  I went for the Clif bar first, for no particular reason.  I really liked the fact that you could see and taste real foods in the bar -- there was a big hunk of almond in at least one of my bites.  I could also pick out the blueberries that were melded into the Clif bar.  The texture was good, chewy, but with some occasional crunch.  It was almost like a mealier version of a traditional Quaker Oats granola bar (texture-wise).  I would buy this again!  It held me off until lunch time, which was really only 3 1/2 hours.  But, it was only 240 calories, so if I had gotten hungry for lunch I could have had a piece of fruit too and been satisfied.  What bar will I try tomorrow!?

I like the bars!

No, not the bars that serve alcohol, though I occasionally like those too.  I'm talkin bout the breakfast bars.  As mentioned before, I have been frequenting a lot of healthy food blogs lately, and have picked up on a lot of popular foods in the healthy food blog community.  When Chris and I took a trip to Trader Joe's yesterday, I picked up a wide assortment of various power/breakfast bars to try.  I have yet to try any of them, because it's the weekend.  I like to save the bars for when I need a quick grab-and-go kind of breakfast or snack.  So, I will be following up on this post with reviews of the different bars.  The only bars I have tried in the past are Luna bars, which I do like.  However, they seem to have a strange film that stays on your tongue after eating them, almost like shortening.

Here are the bars I picked up:

2 Clif bars, 2 Lara bars, 2 Pure bars, 1 Flavor and Fiber bar (gnu), and 2 Think Thin bars.  Let the taste testing begin!

Oh, and to be counterproductive on the healthy eating front, I am going to bake something (probably cookies) full fat today.  I have the urge to bake, and I won't hold back.  But, hopefully I will hold back the urge to eat!  I plan to give away most of the cookies (or whatever it is I decide to bake) to my coworker for her birthday.

Also, to be even more counterproductive, we're having the best pizza in St. Louis tonight with my family!  It's definitely not low-fat or low-cal!  And, it is impossible to practice eating in moderation with Faraci Pizza!  Mmmmmm Provel cheese.  Those of you non-locals may not have heard of Provel, but it is a St. Louis staple!  It's a combo of Swiss, Provolone, and Cheddar.

Oh where oh where has my little dog gone?!

Look what happened to my Wembley!!!

Before

After

The poor groomer looked like she was afraid that I would think she did a terrible grooming job.  But, I knew that with all of the mats in his ears and chin area, he would have to be shaved pretty funky.  Fortunately, though he may look like a different dog, we know he is the same ol' Wembley thanks to his devilish attitude!  Look, his eyes are even glowing the same devil glow!
